Longtime See Canyon residents Dick and Dolores Kelsey, along with sons Keith and Richard, are your hosts as they invite you to sample from a selection of outstanding wines.
What began as a retirement project back in 1999 has blossomed into a full time labor of love for Dick and Dolores. Along with renowned winemaker Jac Jacobs, the Kelsey Family is hands on in all areas of the business. The winery property grows our Estate Chardonnay grapes as well as Pinot Noir. Probably the hardest part out of all the work is cleaning up after the peacocks. There are over 130 peacocks on our Family Ranch and more babies born every year.
Further north of the Cuesta grade in the tiny town of Creston, Richard and Laurie Kelsey are busy tending to their own ranch, growing Zinfandel, Merlot, Cabernet and Syrah grapes. With their 3 girls (all of whom want to be Grandpa Dick’s next winemaker), the vineyard is hand pruned, fertilized and farmed utilizing materials and practices intent on promoting a healthy environment. This entails a lot of hard work but the results are worth it.
Keith Kelsey is managing the winery and can often be seen at many of the wine pouring functions, making sure the customer is taken care of and enjoying the opportunity to sample our delicious wines. Keith, a former Avila Beach Fire Chief and Port San Luis Harbor Commissioner, and his son Clive can also be seen tending to the ranch and winery ensuring the premises maintain that luster that draws people in by its sheer beauty. Keith's daughter Devon is often found in the tasting room and also helping the rest of the family outside. Cousin Travis, Dick's great-nephew, serves as both the assistant winemaker as well our our wine club manager. Once the Crush season starts, it is all hands on deck and it's pretty normal to see longtime friends and cousins of the Kelsey's out there giving a hand as well.

Jac has worked in the wine industry for more than 32 years. His experience has covered both the North Coast wine region (21 harvests) and the Central Coast wine region (11 harvests). His specialties are wines that are true to varietal character, full-bodied red wines with a smooth balance of tannins, dry fruity white wines, along with sparkling wines and ports. He has produced numerous gold medal wines in his career, one of which was selected and served at the White House for a presidential state dinner. Many of the Sauvignon Blancs that he has made have been consistently rated the best in the world. Over his career he has had the opportunity to work with some of the legends of the wine industry such as Andre Tcheischeff, John Parducci, Bob Iantosca and Michael Topolos. From them he has developed a passion for producing high quality wines. He is using the opportunity at Kelsey See Canyon Vineyards to apply his many years of wine making experience, skills, and knowledge to the success and profitability of a winery owned by a dedicated family committed to producing wines that are true to character and exceptional in quality.
